Annan Harbour Action Group St. Ayles Skiff Rowing Regatta, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of July 2017

This year Annan Harbour Action Group will be holding events over two days to maximize the opportunities for rowers to take part.

Venue: Annan Harbour 5 minutes from the A75 and only 15 minutes from the M74 at junction 20.

Format: Our weekend features a programme of races on Saturday 22nd (10.00 – 15.00) and a Cruise in Company across the Solway Firth to Cumbria on Sunday 23rd (11.45 – 15.15), re-enacting the Bell Raid and taking time for a picnic/pub lunch in England.

Regatta: The full program of races will be published on our web-site when these are finalised and will be dependent on entries. We have three different options for courses and will make our selection based on weather conditions; all are around 1.5 miles long.

Cruise: The flotilla will proceed down the river in company with our safety boats before crossing the Solway Firth, almost along the line of the former Caledonian railway viaduct. It will rendezvous on the Cumbrian coast with the children and community of Bowness-on-Solway
where the Bell Raid will be commemorated. See elsewhere on the web-site for an account of the history behind this event. We then proceed the short distance into the village on foot for a pub lunch or picnic if preferred. Bowness is the western terminus of Hadrian’s Wall Path.

Crews can change for the run back to Annan.

Launching: Skiffs will be launched, on both days, from the slipway at Annan Harbour. There is parking at the harbour for cars and trailers.

In an attempt to keep people out of the pub after the Saturday races we can arrange a visit to Annandale Distillery. Tour at 4pm £8.50

There will be a barbeque with music on the Saturday evening from 8.00pm in the Blue Bell Inn, Dumfriesshire
Pub of the Year 2016 (again!) and 2nd place in 2017 Scottish Cider Pub of the Year, to which everyone is invited – rowers, groupies, locals, visitors.
