Sunday the 28th of May 2017 - Free Kayak Taster Event at Annan Harbour

Event Report

The sun was out on Sunday the 28th of May 2017 as two instructors from Galloway Activity Centre began to get kayaks ready to launch at Annan Harbour. Volunteer members of Annan Harbour Action Group helped carry the kayaks to the slipway and pontoon for launching and it wasn't long before the first group of 6 paddlers took to the water for instruction. The kayaks were the sit on variety, with some being double kayaks for two paddlers. There were two groups in the water at a time and they paddled out of the harbour, up stream and down stream on the River Annan and back to the harbour. Between 1:00pm and 4:00pm almost 45 people took part in the free kayak taster event - we even managed to get some kayak time for a family who were in Annan on a holiday visit from Wolverhampton! Everyone seemed to really enjoy the opportunity to get afloat and not even one participant ended up in the water - a testament to the instructors and the stability of the sit on kayaks.

Hopefully this will just be the first of many kayaking opportunities at Annan Harbour and it won't be long before we see more people taking to the water for a paddle.

This event is delivered as part of the "Developing Annan Harbour" project and is financially supported by LEADER, The Holywood Trust and Dumfries and Galloway Council.
